Babu Jagjivan Ram Commemorative Stamp

Jagjivan Ram, popularly known as Babuji, was a national leader, freedom fighter, and politician from Bihar. In 1937, he was elected to Bihar Legislative Assembly, after which he organised the rural labour movement. He was the youngest minister under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru's interim government in 1946. He played a vital, active and crucial role in the freedom struggle.He was also in the first cabinet of India as a Labour Minister. He was a member of the Constituent Assembly of India, where he ensured that social justice was enshrined in the Constitution. As the member of Indian Indian National Congress, he served as a minister with various portfolios for the next 30 years.
The Government of India issued this commemorative stamp on Jagjivan Ram in 1991 to commemorate him and his work.
