2016-07-16 Sat

On 19th May, the last of the “Austria by its Children” 10-coin series was issued which celebrates the province of Upper Austria. The capital of Upper Austria is Linz and is surrounded by Germany and Check Republic. It is relatively larger in size as well as in population when compared to the other provinces.

This part of the country is known for its beautiful meadows, mountains, rivers and streams. Tourists love visiting Upper Austria to indulge in outdoor activities like skiing, snowboarding, climbing, horseback riding, and sailing.

Klara Baumgartner of Dachseberg School created the reverse design which depicts the church of Linz on Poestling Hill, the coat of arms of Upper Austria, the crown of the former duke of Upper Austria, three participants of the annual Gloeckler parade, Traunstein Mountain and Traunsee lake.

The obverse depicts a UNESCO world heritage site – the Hallstatt town. The design includes an evangelical church, the Catholic church, traditional houses on narrow streets and an old-school boat with boatmen. Other inscriptions include ‘REPUBLIK OSTERREICH’, ‘2016’, ‘10 euros’ and HALLSTATT.

These coins were on sale from June 1st onwards and come in a special presentation pack with a certificate of authenticity. Several versions of the silver coins have been released like the Uncirculated (SU) coins and copper coins which are exclusively available only in Austria.
