In 2009, a coin collection was seized in a federal drug case. The entire collection was up for auction and several bidders tried their best to own it. The bid started at $1,000 and the collection was finally bought by Gerald Myers, a Thomasville resident at a hammer price of $7,000.

Officials state that prescription drugs were purchased and smuggled into the United States, repackaged in Boston Pharmacy bottles and sold for a profit. The culprits were sentenced to federal prison. The face value of the collection seized was $628.87.

Experts stated that the value of pre-1964 silver coins would be in the silver and post that silver was never used. Officials also declared that as per law, the money is used for training and equipment purchases only.
