The dram is the monetary unit of Armenia. The word "dram" translates into English as "money" and is cognate with the Greek drachma and the Arabic dirham, as well as the English weight unit dram. The first instance of a dram currency was in the period from 1199 to 1375, when silver coins called dram were issued. The above banknote of 100,000 Drams banknote is a third series of Armenian dram banknotes that were issued in 2017. This banknote is part of the family of notes issued with a kinegram holographic stripe. This means that when the banknote is tilted, an ornament and the person featured on the note would alternately show.
The obverse of the Armenia 100,000 dram features the king of Osroene King Abgar V of Edessa. It also displays a royal flag that shows Jesus Christ. The 1st-century regional map, an ancient coin, and a crown are also notable features of the notes front side. The back of the bill showcases a castle and a river. Another noteworthy design is an image of the disciple Thaddeus handing a canvas bearing a portrait of Jesus Christ to King Abgar V.
