Fine 'Union Forever' Civil War token sold for $8,812.50

On June 10th and 12th, Heritage Tokens and Medals Signature Auction was held along with the Long Beach Coin, Currency, Stamp and Sports Collectibles Expo, which fetched $858,105. One of the tokens was an Undated ‘Union Forever’ Civil War token, MS-64 Brown, which sold for $8,812.50.Civil War tokens of 1860 to 1865 were issued to tackle coin shortage and fell into two major categories: store cards and patriotic issues. Over 10,000 types of these medals have been recorded focussed on certain different themes.
This particular coin depicts the ironclad USS Monitor, is the finest of four known examples, is graded MS-64 brown by NGC and belongs to the Rev. McClure Collection that was collected from 1860 to 1930.
