Dattatreya Balkrishna Kalelkar, popularly known as Kaka Kelalkar, was an Indian independence activist, social reformer, and journalist; he was an eminent follower of the philosophy and methods of Mahatma Gandhi.Kakasaheb Kalelkar completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Fergusson College, Pune in 1907. After completing his graduation, he appeared his first-year examination of LL.B and joined Ganesh Vidyalaya in Belgaum in 1908. He worked for the editorial staff of a nationalistic Marathi daily named Rashtramat.
In 1910, he worked as a teacher in a school named Ganganath Vidyalaya in Baroda. This school was closed down by the British government because of its nationalistic spirit. He was influenced by the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi and became of Sabarmati Ashram. Due to his active participation in Indian National Movement, he was imprisoned many times. He played an important role in the establishment of Gujarat Vidhyapith at Ahmedabad and also served as vice-chancellor between 1928 and 1935.
