2016-07-15 Fri

Though the sale of American Eagle silver bullion coins in June 2016 was lower than that in June 2015, it was 20% higher than the same period in 2015. There has been a slight decrease in the numbers as silver price went up to $20-per-troy-ounce. As of June 30th, the number was 26,250,500 coins compared with 21,726,000 coins that were sold in 2015. In January 2016, 5,954,500 coins were sold which is a 30-year record.

In May 2016, 4,498,500 were sold but only 2,837,500 coins were sold in June. The numbers were almost the opposite in 2015.

1 million coins are allocated weekly, but since the sale slowed down, the carried over coins from the last week’s sale are also allocated. On July 5th, 2,839,500 coins were allocated, out of which 250,000 coins were sold. As the demand for these coins increased, the mint was not able to supply sufficient planchets and this weekly allocation system was introduced since last year.

There has been a 16.6 percent increase in the sale of American Buffalo gold $50 bullion coins.
