Henry Heras Commemorative Stamp

Henry Heras was a Spanish Jesuit priest, archaeologist and historian in India.

In 1922 he was appointed as a History teacher at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. When he was a teacher in St. Xavier's College, he attempted to read the Indus inscriptions and considered them to be classical Tamil. He also wrote a short book on historical methodology, The Writing of History, which became compulsory reading for his students. His research and articles are still preserved and referred by students. He is also the founder of the Indian Historical Research Institute (1926) which was later renamed the Heras Institute of Indian History and Culture.

The Government of India issued this commemorative stamp in the year 1981, to commemorate him and his work.
