A coat of arms is a symbol which donates an independent state in the form of a heraldic achievement.The Coat of Arms of Ghana is found on all government official letterheads. The Coat of Arms of Ghana was designed by Ghanaian artist Nii Amon Kotei and was introduced on 4 March 1957. The Coat of Arms is the badge or emblem of Ghana.
The Coat of Arms of Ghana is composed of two eagles, a shield and the words "Freedom and Justice". The shield of Ghana is divided into four portions.
a) The sword and staff on the Coat of Arms signifies; high level of authority for nation and local government.
b) A fort and waves represents Osu Castle on the sea, and the presidential palace on the Gulf of Guinea symbolizes the national government.
c) The cocoa tree represents vegetative resources of Ghana.
d) The shaft of a gold mine stands for the riches of industrial minerals and natural resources in Ghana.
The two eagles supporting the shield signify a protector with strength and attentive eyes keeping watch over the country.
