Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, famously known as Dadasaheb Phalke, was an Indian producer, director, and screenwriter. He is also known as "the Father of Indian cinema".

Dadasaheb Phalke was born on April 30, 1870, at Trymbakeshwar near Nasik, Maharashtra. He is credited, for bringing the first motion picture, to India. Since; from an early age, he was an artistic nature and had a great interest in creative arts. He started his career pursuing various jobs in photography and as a draftsman. The turning point in his life came when he saw a silent film and was deeply moved by its poignancy. Soon, he decided to be a filmmaker and started his mission of creating his first mythological characters on the moving picture screen.

Dadasaheb Phalke released his first movie, Raja Harishchandra, in 1913. Later, he also produced movies like Mohini Bhasmasur (1913), Satyavan Savitri (1914), Lanka Dahan (1917), Shri Krishna Janma (1918), and Kaliya Mardan (1919). Throughout his life made 95 feature-length films and 27 short films in his career.
