Northern Ireland's 5 Pound Note
2022-04-22 Fri
Banknotes have been issued for use specifically in Northern Ireland since 1929, and are denominated in pounds sterling. They are legal currency, but technically not legal tender anywhere. This is not uncommon as most banknotes are not recognized as tender. However, banknotes are still widely accepted as currency by larger merchants and institutions elsewhere in the United Kingdom.Ulster Bank released new series of vertical polymer banknotes in 2019 and 2020, replacing all of it its paper notes that were in circulation. One such banknote was nominated for the IBNS Bank Note of the Year in 2019.
This vertical format note depicts on the front a flock of flying Brent Geese along with Strang ford Lough in County Down and flowers. The backside of the banknote features a flock of flying Brent Geese along with a small boat in Strang ford Lough, a map, people and dogs along the shoreline, and a king scallop.
