Henry VII ruled England from 1485 to 1509. In terms of the history of Europe and of Western Civilization, the Tudors are one of the most influential royal families. Henry VII was the patriarch of the Tudors and the founder of a dynasty. The Gold Sovereigns of King Henry VII are legendary rarities and are of great historical importance. The portraits of the King on a throne and background devices vary among the types of Gold Sovereigns. The Tudor Rose and shield on the back of each varies as well. Devices that are specific to issues, like small flowers or dragons, are termed mintmarks, though all Gold Sovereigns of Henry VII were produced at the same mint in London. A Henry VII gold type II sovereign realized 372,000 Pounds in Spink’s Dec. 16 and 17 auctions which established a new record price for a Tudor coin. Image Courtesy: coinworld.comLatest News
