U.S. Mint’s 2016-W $100 Proof American .9995 fine Platinum Eagle coin was up for sale from 30th June onwards. It is the second of the two-year “Torches of Liberty” series. Due to the high demand the mintage limit for the coin was 10,000 pieces, unlike the low mintage limit of 4,000 which was set for the earlier coin released in the series. The household ordering limit is one like last time.The reverse depicts the Liberty holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in the left, representing the Thirteen Original Colonies. A bald eagle with out-stretched wings is also depicted. Other inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ.," ".9995 PLATINUM," and "$100".
The obverse depicts the common "Portrait of Liberty" design that featured on the 1997 American Platinum Eagles. Other inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "2016," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM".
Each coin is initially priced at $1,350, which would vary depending on the value of the precious metal on that particular day. As per the latest updates, the coins are currently unavailable since they have run out of the mintage limit. The coins could be made available later depending on returns or cancellations.
