The union of Transylvania with Romania was declared on 1 December 1918 also known as the Great Union Day. It is celebrated as a national holiday in Romania. On 1 December 1918 the National Assembly of Romanians in Transylvania gathered in Alba Iulia.

Romania issued a set of three commemorative stamps in 1968 to celebrate 50th Anniversary of the Union of Transylvania and Romania. The stamps were issued with the denominations of 50 Romanian bans, 1 Romanian leu and 1.75 Romanian leu and depict various stages of the unification protest.
