Leu currency of Romania meant Lion

The National Bank of Romania issued Romanian Leu banknotes in 8 different denominations, including this 1 Romanian Leu banknote (Nicolae Iorga). They are part of the current Romanian Lei banknotes series. The National Bank of Romania started issuing these 1 Romanian Leu banknotes in 2005. They were withdrawn from circulation in the same year.The 1 leu banknote has the image of Nicolae Iorga who was a Romanian historian on the obverse side. The text on the polymer note reads ‘Banca Nationala A Romaniei’. The reverse side of the note deciphers, Cathedral of Curtea de Arges and The Wallachian Eagle. The series of notes was introduced in 2005.
The Leu currency means lion which is derived from the Dutch thaler. The Leu coins are circulated in Romania, Moldova and Bulgaria and gave their name to the respective currencies the Romanian leu, Moldovan leu, and Bulgarian lev.
