First Coin to Depict Braille

The first coin with Braille was the 1 Crown from the Isle of Man commemorating the International Year of Disabled persons.The year 1981 was proclaimed the International Year of Disabled Persons (IYDP) by the United Nations. It called for a plan of action with an emphasis on equalization of opportunities, rehabilitation, and prevention of disabilities. The slogan of IYDP was "a wheelchair in every home", defined as the right of persons with disabilities to take part fully in the life and development of their societies, enjoy living conditions equal to those of other citizens, and have an equal share in improved conditions resulting from socio-economic development.
This coin, issued in the year 1981, features 2nd portrait of Queen Elizabeth II facing right on the obverse with the lettering around outside and the date below. The reverse features the bust of Louis Braille on the right and Braille script on the left along with the denomination at the bottom and the inscription International Year of Disabled around.
