2021-10-12 Tue
The metical is the currency of Mozambique that prevailed between 1979 and 1990 during the period of the temporary People's Republic of Kampuchea. The name metical comes from the Arabic word mithqal which was a unit of weight and an alternative name for the gold dinar coin that was used throughout much of Africa until the 19th century. The metical replaced the escudo at par on 16 June 1980. The metical underwent severe inflation until it was overtaken by the Zimbabwean dollar.
This 1 Metical coin was issued in the year 1982. It depicts a woman sitting woman facing the left writing on a tablet. The front depicts 4th coat of arms of the country which is a combination of a gear-wheel, bordered by corn stalks and sugarcane. In the middle there is a red sun over a map of Mozambique in green and blue waves, an AK-47 crossed with a hoe and a book.
