One of the best-selling novels of all time, Gone with the Wind, was published on 30th June 1936!

A world-famous novel written by Margaret Mitchell portrays the slavery and other African American issues. Written from the perspective of the slaveholder, Gone with the Wind is a Southern plantation fiction. The portrayal of slavery in this book is controversial and so are the racial epithets and ethnic slurs.

However the book is considered as a literary marvel and Mitchell received the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for the book in 1937. It was also adapted into a 1939 American film.

US Post has issued a 25 cents commemorative stamp in March 1990 honouring the movie Gone with the Wind.
