Begum Hazrat Mahal is also known as Begum of Awadh; she was the second wife of Nawab of Awadh Wajid Ali Shah. She was the leading in the rebellion role against the British East India Company during the Indian Rebellion of 1857 CE. She was one of the few women that challenged the British government during the revolt of 1857 CE.Begum Hazrat Mahal was born Muhammadi Khanum; she got married to Nawab Wajid Ali of Awadh. After the birth of their first son, Birjis Kader, she got the title Hazrat Mahal. After the death of her husband, Nawab Wajid Ali she sat on the throne of Awadh, she proved herself as a good ruler. She was motivated to join the war against British Empire and also created separate women’s battalion.
