Jagdish Chandra Bose was a scientist, Biologist, Physicist, Botanist, writer of science fiction, and inventor of wireless communication. He is one of the most prominent Indian scientists who proved by experimentation that both animals and plants share much in common. He was the pioneer in the investigation of radio and microwave optics. He also made a significant contribution to plant science and laid the foundations of experimental science in the Indian subcontinent.Jagdish Chandra Bose was born on 30th November 1858 to Bhagawan Chandra Bose, an assistant commissioner in the government and member of the Brahmo Samaj. He completed his graduation in Physics from Calcutta University. He went to England for further studies in 1880. He planned to compete for civil service examination but changed his mind to medicine, and himself in Natural Sciences tripos at Christ's College, Cambridge.
Jagdish Chandra Bose was the first to use a semiconductor junction to detect radio waves and invented various microwave components. He also invented Mercury Coherer, a radio wave receiver that was used by Guglielmo Marconi to build an operational two-way radio.
