Krushna chandra gajapati, also known as maharaja sir krushna chandra gajapati narayana deb; was the key personality and regarded as the architect of an independent united odisha state. He made an appeal for creating a separate province of odisha on the basis of language and homogeneity during the first round table conference held in london on 16th november 1930. The present-day gajapati district of odisha which was earlier a part of the ganjam district was named after him.

Krushna chandra gajapati was born on 26th april 1892 to zamindar of paralakhemundi, goura chandra gajapati and his wife radhamani devi.

Krushna chandra gajapati had served as a captain during world war i. He received a rare sanad from the viceroy and government-general of india in 1920. He was a member of the royal commission on agriculture, under the chairmanship of lord linlithgow, and was also a member of madras legislative council.
