Hawa Mahal Commemorative Stamp

Hawa Mahal, also known as “The Palace of Winds” or “The Palace of Breeze” was in the Indian state of Jaipur in the year 1977. Hawa Mahal; derived its name from its unique structure, a mesh of small windows that allow the cool wind to enter the palace. This five-story building is similar to the honeycombed structure with its 953 small windows known as Jharokhas decorated with intricate latticework.

Hawa Mahal; was constructed by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh of the Kachhwaha Rajput dynasty. This palace is built with red and pink sandstone; it is believed that this palace is constructed in the form of the crown of Krishna, the Hindu god. The main intention behind constructing this palace was to facilities the royal women; and provides them the view of day-to-day life through windows, as they never appeared in public.
