King Louis XIV, also known as Louis the Great or the Sun King was the king of France. He ruled France from 14 May 1643 CE until his death 1715 CE. He sat on the throne of France at the age of four and ruled France for almost 72 years. He did not assume the actual personal control of the government until the death of his first minister Jules Cardinal Mazarin, in 1661.

King Louis XIV is considered the longest-ruling king of Europe. His ruling period was the golden age of art and literature. During his rule, King Louis XIV managed to improve France's disorganized system of taxation and limit formerly haphazard borrowing practices. Louis XIV died in 1715, four days before his 77th birthday. He ruled France for almost 72 years, his rule is considered an indelible mark on the culture, history, and destiny of France.
