On 6th June, it was officially announced by the Polish National Bank that new 500-zloty notes which would equal to $128, will be introduced for circulation in February 2017. The note would be last of the series “Rulers of Poland” and would feature King Jan (John) III Sobieski, who ruled from 1674 to 1696. The reverse would feature Poland’s coat of arms with the imperial eagle and the Wilanow Palace in Warsaw.

The series started in 2014 when the first four notes were issued — a 10-zloty note (Prince Mieszko I), a 20-zloty note (the first Polish king, Boleslaus the Brave), a 50-zloty note (Casimir III the Great) and a 100-zloty note (Ladislaus II Jagiello). A 200-zloty note depicting Sigismund I was issued this February.

Officials stated that the modern notes would bear the latest security features to stop counterfeiting activities. The introduction of new notes has reduced the number of fake notes in circulation to almost half.
