Mint of Finland Honours Philosopher Georg Henrik von Wright

The 100th birth anniversary of philosopher Georg Henrik von Wright will be celebrated by Mint of Finland by issuing circulating commemorative €2 ringed-bimetallic coin with a copper-nickel core and copper-aluminium-nickel ring. 1 million coins are planned to be released in October.Wright was born on 14thJune, 1916 and served as the professor at the University of Cambridge. His writings were based on analytic philosophy and philosophical logic. His 1951 book, An Essay in Modal Logic and Deontic Logic, was a landmark during the post-war period.
The reverse would feature an ancient Doric pillar with an oak branch. Other inscriptions include ‘GEORG HENRIK VON WRIGHT’, ‘2016’ and ‘FI’ for Finland. The outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag. The reverse features a map of the European Union.
