The Aztecs Empire was the Mesoamerican culture that flourished in central Mexico during the post-classical period between 1300 and 1521. The name Aztec; is derived from Aztlan that means ‘White land’, ‘Land of White Herons’, or ‘place of Herons’. The Aztecs built an empire in the area now called central Mexico.

The origin of Aztec people is uncertain, but concerning some of the elements of their tradition, one can say that they were hunters and gatherers. They were the greatest empire of Mexico for about 300 years. They were the ones to introduced compulsory schooling. The arrival of the Spanish conquistadors brought it to a sudden end.
