In the year 2016, the reserve bank of Fiji issued 2 million copies of the world’s only 7 Dollars banknote after its men’s rugby sevens team won the country’s first Olympic medal, a gold one, in Rio.The face of the note shows the gold-medal winning team with their medals around their necks. On the other side is former captain Osea Kolinisau and the team’s then-head coach, Ben Ryan. The note has become a good luck charm and the gold medal in 2016 brought hope to Fiji after a devastating cyclone.
Fiji was undefeated in the opening matches of the Tokyo Games. It beat Argentina in the semifinals and won the gold medal on 28th July 2021.
