Mikhail Naimy is considered to be one of the most significant writers in modern Arabic literature and one of the most prominent spiritual writers of the 20th century who published works in Russian, English and Arabic. Poet and philosopher Mikhail Naimy was born in Lebanon in 1889.

On May 17, 1978, Lebanon issued a set of three airmail stamps to commemorate the festival held in Naimy’s honor. Each stamp’s design is meticulously described, along with brief descriptions of the locations shown on the stamps.

Among his best known books is The Book of Mirdad, a mystical text first published in Lebanon in 1948. It describes the very nature of human existence and Man's relation to the God within. It is told through the eyes of the monks as their lives change when a mystical stranger, Mirdad, enters the monastery.
