The Battle of Gangut; was fought between Swedish Navy and Imperial Russian Navy on 7th August 1714. Battle of Gangut; was fought during the Great Northern War; in the waters of Riilahti Bay, north of the Hanko Peninsula, near the site of the modern-day city of Hanko. It was the first important victory of the Russian fleet in its history.In Sweden and Finland, this battle is known as the Battle of Relax. It is also known as the Battle of Ahvenanmaa, the Finnish name of the Åland Islands, which Russia seized after its victory. This commemorative stamp was issued by Russia in the year 2014, with the theme of The Battle of Gangut.
