Commemorative Banknote of Transnistria

2021-08-04 Wed

Transnistria is located in the narrow strip of land between the river Dniester and the Ukrainian border. Tiraspol is the largest and capital city of the country. The name Transnistria derives from Romanian colloquial which meant beyond the Dniester River. It became an autonomous political entity in 1924. The ruble is the official currency of Transnistria and is divided into 100 kopecks. When Transnistria became independent, it did not have its own mint. They selected a foreign Mint of Poland at Warsaw to strike their coins. The 1 Transnistrian ruble note depicts the portrait of General Alexandr Vasilievich Suvorov and at the backside of the coin features Kitskansky Bridgehead and Memorial Complex of the country. The translated legends on the note are, “Transnistria, Transnistrian Republican Bank, One Ruble, Forgery of the banknotes of the Bank of Transnistria is punishable by law”.
