Jubbal princely state was located at a height of 2200 meters above sea level. It was covered with an area of 682 square kilometres. According to the 1901 census, the total population of the state was 21,172. It stretched from Shimla and Bashan in the west and to Rawin, Tarooch and Dehra Dun district in the east. It was famous for its dense forests of Deodars trees.Earlier, it was a feudatory of Simur, but after the Gurkha War, it became independent. Deorha was the capital of the state. Their origin can be traced from Rathor Rajput clan. Presently, Jubbal state is a town or Nagar panchayat in the Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh.
The origin of Jubbal goes back to the 12th century when King Ugar Chand of Sirmoor state built Sonnpur fort which was used as a summer palace. According to one popular story, the king and his royal family went out of their state to enjoy holidays, meanwhile, Giri River got over-flooded and the capital city was swept away. Prince of Jaisalmer captured the ruined state and hence the royal family lost their ancestral Sirmoor state.
Raja Bhayat Chandra Bahadur of Jubbal state had issued gold Half Mohur in 1988 Vikram Samvat. The obverse of the coin depicts a Coat of arms with lions holding flags, Crown at the top in the inner circle, Mint name and VS date. The reverse of the coin features Shri in Hexagram at inner circle, Shri Shri Shri Ramchandra Jayati in Devanagari surrounds within a floral design.
