Trebenista Masks on Macedonian banknote

The National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia issued Macedonian Denar banknotes in 9 different denominations, including this 500 Macedonian Denari banknote which depicts golden funeral masks found in the ancient necropolis of Trebeništa, Macedonia.Trebeništa is an ancient necropolis dating from the Iron Age, i.e. around the 7th century BC. Trebeništa was discovered by Bulgarian soldiers during World War I Bulgarian occupation of Kingdom of Serbia in 1918. The funeral golden masks, a hand with a ring, and a sandal made of a thin sheet of gold, found in three graves, reflect the high social status of the warriors.
On the back side of the 500 denari bill is a deep red coloured poppy flower.
