San Diego County Fair Exhibits Offbeat Collections
2016-06-27 Mon
Valerie Goold from San Diego thought of a unique display collection named “Things We No Longer Use” at the San Diego County Fair, when she was cleaning up her mother’s house. The collection had items like Blockbuster video rental cards, old phones and VHS recorders. The Home & Hobby area exhibited many such items that people do not use generally along with collectibles related to quilt-making and coin-collecting. Many visitors came down to know the value of the coins they had inherited or owned. Officials stated that many of these coins are not that valuable unless they are from the 1800s.
The Buffalo Head nickel is the most commonly collected coin and collectors come in with a hope that they are rare. Most of them are damaged during production where the buffalo hoof is intact but the leg is missing.
Officials have stated that these damaged coins can fetch $400 if they are real. But since they are soft, it is easy to recreate the damage and produce a fake error coin.
