2021-07-30 Fri
While the 1856 British Guiana 1cent Magenta stamp is breaking up records in philately, Guyana is setting a new one.On May 20, the first philatelic library in the South American country was dedicated at Guyana’s main post office in Georgetown. The Library, which is dedicated to books about stamps, is a project of the Guyana Philatelic Society (GPS), in collaboration with the GPOC.
The country’s history has been told through postage stamps, including the British Guiana One-Cent Magenta which is regarded as the most famous and rare stamp in the world. The main aim to establish this kind of library is to promote philately (the collecting or studying of stamps as a hobby) in Guyana.
The library includes reference copies of the Scott postage stamp catalogues, general books about stamp collecting, and much more.
