Sher Shah Suri was the founder of the Sur Empire in India; He founded this empire after defeating Mughal Emperor Humayun in the Battle of Kannauj. After defeating Mughal Emperor Humayun, Sher Shah Suri went to capture Delhi and Agra, hence establishing the rule of the Suri Dynasty.The real name of Sher Shah Suri was Farid. He issued the title ‘Sher Khan’ after he killed a tiger. His father was small Afgan Jagirdar near Jaunpur. Suri was a brilliant strategist and reformed the civic and military administration and re-organized the postal system in India. Sher Shah built 2000 miles long Grand Trunk Road with 1700 shelters for Harkara as Rest House. .
This silver rupee that weighs around 11.29g; was issued by Sher Shah Suri during his rule in the Hijri year 949 from the mint Ranathambhor. It is listed for INR 50,000 in the upcoming online auction of Oswal Antiques that will be held in Mumbai on 1st August 2021. .
