Silver Drachm of Indo-Greek King Manender I

The indo-Greek kingdom was ruled by over 30 kings between the 2nd Century BC and 1st Century AD. They ruled the region of northwest and north India.

Menander-I Soter, also known as Milinda in Pali; was the ruler of Indo-Greek ruler. He is considering the greatest Indo-Greek king and one of the best-known western and Indian classical authors. King Menander, I issued coins in two weight standard attic weight standards as well as Indian weight standards. He issued coins in two shapes square and circular. They had bilingual inscriptions in Kharoshthi and Greek. Very few have been found with Brahmi inscriptions.

This silver drachm that weighs around 2.42g was issued by Menander I during his rule in Indo-Greek. The obverse of his coin depicts the bust of the king facing towards the right. The reverse of this coin depicts ‘Athena Alkidemos standing left, monograms to left and right’.
