Miyan Tansen was of the nine jewels or navaratnas (nine gems) in the court of Mughal Emperor Akbar. He is considered as the greatest of all musicians of India ever produced till date. He has composed many ragas and had played an important role in creating the classical genre of north Indian music we know today.Miyan Tansen started his career in the court of the Hindu king of Rewa, Raja Ramchandra Singh where Tansen's musical abilities and studies gained widespread fame. Later, when he became a mature musician he joined the court of Mughal Emperor Akbar. Akbar was best known for his patronage of the arts.
