Silver Tanka of Jaya Manikya II of Independent Kingdom Tripura

This silver tanka that weighs around 10.27g was issued by Jaya Manikya II of Independent Kingdom Tripura. Jaya Manikya II ruled this kingdom between 1739 CE and 1744 CE.The original name of Jaya Manikya II was Rudramani Thakur, he belongs to the cadet branch of the royal family. He issued the name Jaya Manikya II after sitting on the throne of Tripura. After sitting on the throne of the Tripura, Jaya Manikya II spent lots of his time fighting against various relations to maintain a grip on the kingdom, particularly with his cousin Indra Manikya II.
The obverse of this silver tanka depicts ‘lion facing left, standard above, date below and to the right, within circle and border of beaded annulets’. The reverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Si [lingam] vah / Hara Gauri Pade/ Sri Sri Yuta Jaya Ma/nikya Deva Sri Jaso/vati Maha Devyau in a square with ornamented border, the lingam at the top’.
