Sher Shah Suri was the ruler of the Delhi Sultanate; he was the founder of the Sur Dynasty in India and was the first ruler of the Sur Dynasty. His original name was Farid. He got the title ‘Sher Khan’ after he killed a Tiger. Sur dynasty was the Afgan family that ruled northern India from 1540-1556.

Sher Shah Suri founder the Sur dynasty after defeating Mughal Emperor Humayun in the Battle of Chausa fought in the year 1539 CE. The Sur dynasty ruler Delhi for almost 17 years, and in this 17 years of reign, they ruled all of the Mughal territories from modern-day Afghanistan in the west to modern-day Bangladesh in the east.

Sher Shah Suri was a brilliant strategist and reformed the civic and military administration and re-organized the postal system in India. Sher Shah built 2000 miles long Grand Trunk Road with 1700 shelters for Harkara as Rest House.
