2021-06-22 Tue

Richard II is also known as Richard of Bordeaux; he was the king of England from 1377 until his deposition in 1399. Richard II was the son of Edward; he sat on the throne at the age of 10. Richard II was an ambitious ruler with a lofty conception of royal office. He was deposed by his cousin Henry Bolingbroke (Henry IV) because of his arbitrary and factional rule.

During the first year of Richard II's reign, the government was in the hand of a series of regency councils, influenced by Richard's uncles John of Gaunt and Thomas of Woodstock.

Richard II's reigns mark with a series of struggles; the early phase of his reign was overshadowed by the Hundred Years’ War, a prolonged struggle with France. A major challenge of the reign was the Peasants' Revolt in 1381, and the young king played a central part in the successful suppression of this crisis.
