Chandragiri is a town in the Chittoor district in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh. Chandragiri Fort is a historical fort; build during the 11th Century Yadava rulers of the Vijayanagara Kingdom. The Chandragiri Fort is also known as Raj Mahal Palace. Today Raj Mahal fort is an archaeological museum under the supervision of The Archaeological Survey of India. Now, the Archaeological Survey of India is taking care of Chandragiri Fort. This palace is an example of the Indo-Saracenic architecture of the Vijaynagar period.Chandragiri was the 4th capital of the Vijaynagar Empire; the Vijaynagar Empire shifted their capital to Chandragiri when Golconda sultans attacked Penukonda. In 1646, the fort was annexed to the Golkonda territory.
