On 2nd June 1953, Queen Elizabeth II was crowned as monarch at Westminster Abbey, London. Elizabeth sat on the throne of the British Empire at the age of 25; after the death of her father George VI, on 6th February 1952.Queen Elizabeth was the sixth queen to have crowned in Westminster Abbey, The first to have crowned was Queen Mary I, she was crowned on 1st October 1553. It took around one year for the preparation of this one-day ceremony. The first meeting of this coronation meeting took place in April 1952, under the chairmanship of her husband Philip, Duke of Edinburg. The celebration of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II took place across the Commonwealth realms and commemorative medals were issued. It was the only coronation that was televised.
