James Buchanan was an American lawyer and politician; he served the United States of America as a president between 1857 CE and 1861 CE. He was the only president of the United States of America who got elected from Pennsylvania and to remain a lifelong bachelor.

James Buchanan was a prominent lawyer in Pennsylvania; he won the presidential election to the state's House of Representatives as a Federalist. Most of the historian claim that he was of the worst president of the United States of America. His Presidency has marked that conflict, a conflict that had been brewing for over thirty years.

In 1945, James Buchanan was appointed to serve President James K. Polk's secretary of state; after eight years he served President Franklin Pierce. The last part of the Buchanan presidency, with his apparent indifference to the onset of the Civil War.
