Vatican has been Sued
2021-05-31 Mon
This is one of the rarest moments in the history of philately. The Vatican City’s telecommunications office has been sued by an artist for featuring an artwork on an Easter stamp without permission or attribution. In the year 2020, Vatican issued a stamp commemorating Easter with the street art design featuring resuscitation of Jesus Christ. However, while issuing the stamp Vatican City’s Office of Philately and Numismatics described the stamp as depicting “a of the Ascension by Heinrich Hofmann located in Rome, near Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II.”
On the contrary, the art work was created by Alessia Babrow in 2019 which eatured Babrow’s hallmark heart emblazoned across Christ’s chest” for the stamp. Written across this heart in English is “Just Use It.” Long story short Alessia Babrow has filed suit against the Vatican City’s communications office for using the image without her permission which is seeking nearly 130,000 Euros.
