Ecuador is a country situated in north-western South America. Officially Ecuador is known as the Republic of Ecuador. It is considered one of the most environmentally diverse countries in the world. This country had contributed notably to environmental science. Ecuador has a rich cultural heritage; it came to be included in the Inca Empire, the largest political unit of pre-Columbian America.

Ecuador is named after the Equator, the imaginary line around the Earth that splits the country in two. Most of the country is in the Southern Hemisphere. As Ecuador lies on the Equator most of the counties, except the Sierra, experiences a humid tropical climate.
