Marion Robert Morrison, popularly known as John Wayne was an American actor and filmmaker. He started his career as an extra, prop man, and stuntman, mainly for the Fox Film Corporation. He was one of the most popular actors of the 20th century, best known for his roles in films such as 'True Grit' and 'The Alamo.' He is the greatest star of all time, was an icon of both Western films in particular and American cinema in general.

John Wayne got his first leading role in the movie ‘The Big Trail (1930) directed by John Ford. His career leaped forwards after the movie Red River (1948) directed by Howard Hawks. John Wayne won the first Academy Award in 1969 for his role in True Grit.
