Pending ‘Brighter Money’ Series Banknotes Released by New Zealand

New Zealand’s $5 Edmund Hillary note that was put into circulation last October, had recently received the International Banknote Society’s Banknote of the Year Award. The Reserve Bank of New Zealand will now be releasing the remaining notes in its new “Brighter Money” Series 7, as per an official statement dated 16th May. 300,000 of the $20, $50 and $100 notes were distributed through banks. The new notes feature a brighter print, with a greater colour contrast.Major aspects of the depictions on the notes remain the same but the new notes uses the Maori language more frequently like “Aotearoa” for New Zealand, and “Te Putea Matua,” for the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. The names of the native birds are also in Maori namely, hoiho, whio, karearea, kokako and mohua.
