In the year 1991 former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi got killed today by a suicide bomber. This incident took place in a village approximately 40km from Madras Sriperumbudur, near Madras [now Chennai]), where he had gone for the campaign of the Lok Sabha Congress Candidates.

Rajiv Gandhi was the 6th Prime Minister of India from 1984 to 1989. He took the presidential office after the assassination of her mother Indira Gandhi. He was one of the youngest Prime ministers of India. Rajiv Gandhi started his career as a professional pilot in Air India in 1966; he stayed away from politics for a longer time. He finally entered politics in 1980 after the death of his brother Sanjay Gandhi who died in a plane crash.
