Amelia Earhart; first woman to make solo, nonstop transatlantic flight

Today On May 21, 1932; Amelia Mary Earhart became the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Amelia Earhart set many records in her life; she also wrote best-selling books about her flying experiences and was instrumental in the formation of The Ninety-Nines, an organization for female pilots.

In the year 1937, during a flight to circumnavigate the globe, Earhart got disappeared somewhere over the Pacific. Her plane got wrecked and was never found and she was officially declared lost at the sea. Till today her disappearance is one of the greatest mysteries of the twentieth century.
