Commemorative Stamp of Baba Jassa Singh Ahluwalia

Sultan-ul-Quam Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia was the prominent leader of Sikhs, during the period of the Sikh Confederacy. He was the supreme leader of Dal Khalsa. On March 29, 1748, he was democratically elected as a supreme military commander of the Sikhs Confederacy. In the year 1754, he was honored with the title ‘Nawab’ at Amritsar, after the passing of Nawab Kapur Singh in 1753.

Baba Jassa Singh Ahluwalia was the Misldar of the Ahluwalia Misl. He was also one of the most important leaders of Ahluwalia Misls. In 1762, Afghan chief Ahmad Shah Abdali attacked Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar and also destroyed Amritsar. It was Baba Jassa Singh Ahluwalia who recaptured Amritsar from Afghan and rebuilt the damaged Harmandir Sahib.

This commemorative stamp was issued in the year 1985 to commemorate the Death Bicentenary of Baba Jassa Singh Ahluwalia.
